February was a month full of activity.
February 5th was Nick's last night at our house. He was all packed up and ready to move into his new apartment at the end of the week. He and Seth were meeting at the apartment after work on February 6th to get the keys to their new place. Nick borrowed our blow-up mattress to serve as his bed until we got his furniture moved in. He was so excited.
February 6th Steve and I packed up Nick's refrigerated items and his mini-fridge and took them to his new place. It is really nice and so close to his work. It only takes him 15 minutes to get to work now instead of 35. He took us on a tour and it was fun to see where he would be living.
February 7th, I was in the hallway talking to some teachers when Shannon Stein, our superintendent, came over and congratulated me on Avian's Scholastic awards. She told me that Avian is only the second student in LNC history to get a gold on their portfolio. When I let Avian know later that night, they were blown away and even more excited!
Jeremy got home late that night. He was in low spirits because the E-sports team had to fire one of their coaches for doing unethical things during the most recent competition. He knew it had to be done, but he still didn't like doing it.
February 9th!! Official Moving Day! We got all the big stuff movcd in and set up and were done by 3. He now had a real bed to sleep on instead of a mattress that keeps deflating.
February 10th we got his shelves and little things moved to his new place. Steve helped hand the shelves on the wall and I helped organize and get things put away. Nick also went and bought a television and microwave for his new place. He is getting it all set up just he way he likes it.

February 12th, The Biscuit, a local Charlotte Newsletter, is going to do a feature article on Avian. They chose Avian's portfolio as their winner. So exciting.
February 14th I woke up to low water pressure and no hot water. When I got downstairs I heard water running and KNEW that I would find a flooded garage. YUP! The water heater hose had burst and there was water spewing everywhere. Avian ran and got Steve and I started moving vehicles so we could get to the water main and shut it off. I ran around the house putting reminders not to flush toilets or run water. When I called my boss to explain the situation, she told me to just take the day off and get everything settled.
Once we assessed the damage, we found that it was not as bad as we had initially thought. There had been a lot of water spewing everywhere, but it had been coming from a relatively small source. The drywall was not soaked and would dry out on its own. Steve's drill press and bandsaw had taken the brunt of the water and had spared the freezer. As it turned out, they were not ruined. Steve was able to get them cleaned and dried. We were able to get a hold of our plumber who was going to take a day off his current job and come help us with our situation. While we waited for Lane to come and take measurements and make a list of needed parts, we took the hanging shelf down so we would have better access to the corner. We also moved shelves and checked for additional water damage. When we went to Lowe's to pick up the new water heater, it was the last one they had in stock!! By the end of the day we were back up and running. We were very lucky!!

- A hard-working hubby
- Peace in all the turmoil

February 17th we all went to Mr. Tokyo's for dinner to celebrate Jeremy's birthday. We had to wait for an hour (no surprise there!!) so Steve and Nick went to Target to get a fry cutter for Nick while Jeremy, Avian and I stayed around to hold our spot in line. They got back just in time. We had a yummy dinner and then went back to the house for presents and cheesecake. Jeremy is 25. WEIRD!!
Sunday, February 18th, Steve and I were walking into church at the same time as the Bryant's. Sam Bryant came running up to Steve and yelled "Grandpa!" Steve was grinning from ear to ear.
Monday, February 19th. Jeremy is officially 26!! I was also fit for my new tooth.

February 22nd, I drove Avian to the school so they could get on the bus with their fellow seniors and head to Universal Studios!! This is such a fun group of kids.

February 24th was a busy day! I got all the plants repotted and the RS Women's Conference posters printed. Avian freaked me out while I was waiting in line by calling me from Florida. They were trying to decide if they wanted to buy a sweatshirt as a souvenir and wanted my opinion (and for me to go in on the sweatshirt with them). We decided it was a good buy and would be a fun memento of their trip. They were having a great time!
That afternoon, Nick called and said that his feet were swollen. We told him to lay down with his feet up and we would be there soon. When we got there, his feet were really swollen and he sounded even worse in person than on the phone. Steve and I went to the store to get him some medicine and first aid stuff as well as some dinner. We got him all settled in for the night with some Benedryl in his system.
Jeremy came home exhausted, but with a smile on his face. He had hosted another successful event on campus. I am so proud of him.
February 25th, Avian is home and had an amazing time. I am so glad they were able to go on this trip with their friends who they have been in school with since at least 5th grade. It really is a great group of kids. Nick called and said that is feet were better but now his hands were swollen. We told him to take some more Benedryl and watch it. I went to the Albemarle ward conference and had a great time getting to know the ladies in that ward. Back at home Nick called and now his lip was swollen. I told him to watch it closely!! I told him if he woke up in the middle of the night and his face was more swollen to go immediately to the nearest ER and then call us. He agreed.
February 26th, Nick called first thing in the morning and said he was on his way to the Urgent Care. His lips were more swollen and his eyes were swollen as well. They took one look at him and sent him to the Emergency Room. He called me again, scared, from the ER waiting room. I asked him if he had seen a triage nurse and he said yes. I told him that if they sent him back to the waiting room then he was not in immediate danger. He did not understand why the Urgent Care had sent him to the ER. I told him that facial swelling could get bad fast and to stay where he was. He called me an hour later and let me know that he had seen the doctor and was given a prescription for steroids to help with the swelling.
As if this was not enough excitement for the day, I let Avian sleep in and get to school late, in time for the serious, academic classes. They had been in the school for maybe 15 minutes when everyone was evacuated to the gym because of a bomb threat. They stayed there for an hour while the bomb squad swept the school. They were allowed to go back to their classes shortly after the school was cleared.
February 27th, Nick called to say he was feeling MUCH better and the swelling had come down a lot. Steve called a little bit later asking about another bomb threat at the school. I walked out of my office into a completely empty Media Center which should have been crawling with 7th graders working on projects. I walked into the completely empty halls and out the doors of the school. There were several police officers standing in the parking lot. One of them approached me and asked where I had just come from. I explained that I was in my office with the door closed and didn't hear the announcement to evacuate. It was funny, not funny, but I did chuckle. Let's just say that the tech team is looking into getting speakers put into the digital citizenship room and my office so we can hear any announcements in the future.
February 29th, Steve and I had our taxed done. Afterwards, we went back to the high school to watch Avian, and the band, perform in a mock MPA in preparation for the real competition. Mr. Reavis had gotten three of this music teacher friends to come and judge so they would know what to work on for the real thing.
