June 2016

June 15th Nick decided he wanted to earn a little money this summer.  He decided he would start a lawn-mowing business.  We made up flyers for the neighborhood and I posted it on Facebook.  Now all we had to do was wait.

June 16th I got to watch my friend's girls while she was at the hospital having girl #5.  It was such a fun day.  These little girls are like my own and we love having them around.  We built blanket forts and made cookies and drew pictures and had so much fun until their daddy came to pick them up so they could meet their new sister.  They were so excited that no one complained about having to leave which was a first.

June 17th we had an uneventful soccer practice.  I was a little discouraged and distracted when I got out of the truck in the garage.  I quickly came back to the now when a mouse ran over my foot and disappeared under the shelving.  I immediately texted Steve and told him about the mouse.  His response was "COOL!!"  No, NOT cool.  I started tearing the garage apart and found the nest which I immediately threw out.  I would be going to the store and getting mouse traps the next morning.

June 18th our youth had the first session at the temple which meant leaving Charlotte at 4:30 am.  It was an uneventful drive down, or so I thought.  Turns out, that patch of rough highway wasn't so kind to the truck's windshield.  I took a rock that I didn't discover until I got home.  The temple session itself was amazing and relaxing.  We were back in Charlotte by 11 a.m. with enough time for a short nap before Naomi's soccer game.  We lost again, but we had fun playing.

June 19th was Father's Day.  Since Tabitha had just come home from the hospital with her gorgeous new baby, Ellie, I got to lead the primary kids while they sang to the dads in sacrament meeting.  I also got to go back into primary and do Singing Time.  I had so much fun being with the kids again. We sang and played games.  They remembered all the silly things we did when I was the chorister.  I miss them.  Back at home we fixed dinner for Steve complete with his favorite cookies, oatmeal scotchies with melted marshmallows on top.  The kids got him a superhero t-shirt and his favorite movie, The Fifth Element.

June 20th Nick's business started for real.  He had been pulling weeds for neighbors here and there, but now he had three mowing jobs lined up and he was excited.  His first job was an emergency surprise for her husband that same day.

June 21st we had the windshield repaired, but it cracked again right as they were putting the windshield wipers back on.  We set up another appointment.  Nick then mowed two more lawns for people at church.

June 22nd Nick mowed another lawn.  Naomi and I dropped him and all the equipment off and went shopping for a baby gift for Ellie.  That night the Young Men played frisbee football.  The boys really had a good time.  Nick especially enjoyed it because he and his friend, Matt, played frisbee every day during physical activity time (fancy for recess).  He impressed the others with his mad skilz.

June 23rd we got the windshield fixed, really this time.  Naomi had her friend, Anusha, over to play which meant I was stuck at home and could get stuff done.  I love these days.

June 24th Jeremy found out he scored a 1390 on the SAT.  Pretty dang good!!  We celebrated by going to the pool as a family.  It was also our last soccer practice.  We shared the field with an all-girls team.  They were going to be down a player for their final game and asked if Naomi would play with them.  Naomi was really excited and jumped at the offer.

June 25th Nick and I spent the morning helping the Jensen family move out of their house.  Nick went with the young men to help unload the truck and I headed home to get Naomi ready for her two soccer games.  This was the perfect way to end the season.  Naomi really enjoyed playing with the girls.  They won their game.  We immediately left that game and went to the co-ed game.  We were matched up with the only other non-academy team in the league.  The game was amazing.  Both teams were tired of playing boys that were way above their skill level.  We all just had a blast cheering each other on.  It was the best game of the season!!!  We tied and nobody cared because it was so much fun.  After the game we met on the middle field for the trophy ceremony.
It's a messy job, but somebody has to do it.  That is grass on his face.  He was covered by the time he finished.
June 27th we found out that our nephew, Evan, will be serving in the Eugene, Oregon mission.  Way to go, Evan!!

June 28th Nick, Naomi and I decided it was the perfect day to go to the pool.  We were right!!!  It was like having our own private pool.  No one else was there and they could splash and play without worrying about jumping on someone or getting yelled at for splashing.  Loved it!!

Picture proof of our "private pool".

June 29th I took Nick back to the dentist to have his sealants done.  Nick really doesn't like going to the dentist, but he was a real trooper on this one.  We hurried home to meet with our insurance agent to redo our life insurance policies and then it was off to church for youth night.  The Young Women had a class on how to use social media to spread the gospel.  They loved it because the whole time they were allowed and encouraged to be on their phones.  Nick started his Physical Fitness merit badge and will be a Life scout soon.

June 30th was a full, fun day.  We had a clarinet lesson, Anusha came over to play for the afternoon, we ran some errands, Jeremy applied for a job, Nick bought himself a new car (remote-controlled) and we went to see "Finding Dory".  I love summer!!!
