Special Graduation Edition - 2020

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Nick's senior year was cut short, but Lake Norman Charter did not let their graduates go unrecognized or uncelebrated.  We also tried to make some fun memories for Nick to help make up for the fun times he was missing the last few months of school.

This sign was on display in front of LNC for a few days while the seniors picked up their stuff from the school.

The also lit up the score board in the seniors' honor

Each senior was highlighted individually on the school's Instagram page.

The were also highlighted on the school's Facebook page.

We took a long weekend and went to Wrightsville Beach.  Nick really wanted his cap and gown pictures taken next to the ocean.

On the beach, next to the ocean, in his running shorts (he named them Wanda) in his cap and gown.  He is one happy kid.

My favorite picture of the photo shoot.

Naomi was taking the picture while doing the splits as well.

My second favorite photo

LNC gave all the seniors a yard sign as a way to help celebrate

Nick designed his announcement all by himself.  It turned out really well.

On June 1st, what should have been their graduation day, each senior got a surprise visit.  Each LNC staff sponsored a senior and delivered a good basket full of surprises to help the senior celebrate.  It was fun to have Mrs. Tedder show up and surprise Nick.

July 11th, Nick got together with his close circle of friends and did a photo shoot.  I love how their personalities come out even when they are socially-distanced for the photos.  These are good kids!  (For some reason I can't add any captions to the pictures so the one below (left to right:  Blake Blumenfeld, Nick, Devan French, Kelly Morris and Rachel Moen)

History of the 2020 graduation:

Original plan:  June 1, 2020, graduation ceremony to be held at the Belk Theater in uptown Charlotte.
Update #1:  Move the ceremony to July 13th in hopes that we can still use the Belk Theater and have a traditional graduation.
Update #2:  Not looking likely so the date of July 13th stayed, but the venue changed to the Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis to allow for an outdoor setting to reduce the risk of Covid spread.
Update #3:  Stuck in Phase 2 of reopening and crowds of more than 50 are prohibited.
Update #4:  Drive through graduation at the school.

GRADUATION DAY FOR REAL!!!

July 13, 2020, finally arrived.  We put out our own lawn decoration to congratulate our graduate!  You can't see it in this picture, but the glitter is blue with a green iridescent shine.

At the school we stopped in front of the gym and got our name card and any awards Nick had won.  Coach Zamaira was there to hand out the senior batons to the track team seniors.

Next, holding area to wait to be announced.

Walk across the "stage" while name is being announced.

Accept diploma from Principal Smith (in a socially distanced manner) and have picture taken by a professional photographer.

A couple of pictures with the diploma under the balloon arch and then...

...Mrs. Stein pronounced him officially graduated and he changed his tassel to the left.  He is officially graduated!

One last picture on campus before leaving high school behind and starting on the next adventure.

Nicholas Bennion Cannon - official LNC graduate of the Class of 2020!
All that graduating made him hungry so we went to Tenders for some graduation grub!

Way to go, Nick!  We are so proud of you!
